How do I search on the clinical platform?

Find the method you need. Contact the most relevant laboratory.

Are you looking for a specific method on volunteers to substantiate the effects or the safety of your cosmetic product or ingredient, but don't know how to go about it?

You've come to the right place.

💡 Good to know: You can access the search tutorial from the platform home page by clicking "Watch the tutorial". The "Help center" is accessible from the side menu.

How do I use the search filters?

Filters let you create search combinations and refine your criteria to find the most relevant methods. Some filters refine your laboratory preferences ("Service providers" and "Countries" filters), while others refine the definition of the test method that matches your criteria.

Interconnection and dependency between filters

The filters are interconnected, which means that their content depends on the selections previously made in the other filters.

Use case

For example, by first selecting the "Cutometer" in the "Devices | Methods" filter, you will see in the "Claims" filter only the claims that can be substantiated with the "Cutometer" device.

Conversely, if you first select the "moisturizing" claim in the "Claims" filter, you will only see, in the "Devices | Methods" filter, the devices capable of validating the "moisturizing" claim.

💡 Good to know: Once you have understood the logic of filter interdependence, it is worth paying attention to the order in which you select your search filters.

By using the filters and their combinations in this way, it becomes easier to find precisely what you are looking for.

The information contained in the search filters themselves

Once you understand how the filters work, you also understand that a great deal of information is contained not only in your search results, but also in the remaining available criteria of your search filters.

Indeed, the search results list the methods matching the selected criteria, and the laboratories offering those methods. But the filters are a good way to get an overall view of the information, by cross-referencing the data.

Use case

For example, if you are looking for the devices that can validate the "moisturizing" claim, you will first select "moisturizing" in the "Claims" filter, then look in the "Devices | Methods" filter at the remaining devices available for selection.

This information is available from your search results, but by looking directly at the filters, you don't have to go through all the methods offered to note the device used.

What do the filters mean, and what can you search for with them?

Each filter lets you refine your search according to important business criteria. Depending on the market in which you want to launch your cosmetic product, the effect you want to claim, the type of results you want... you will find the most suitable method.

On the clinical platform, the search starts with the choice of a test category, then is refined with the following 9 search filters:

1. The test category

Before using the filters, choose the test category you are looking for. There are 7:

  • Tolerance

  • Consumer testing

  • Efficacy: skin, hair, nail

  • Efficacy on strands

  • Sensory analysis, neuroscience

  • Efficacy: oral care

  • Consulting

💡 Good to know: This step is useful for a first sorting of methods and laboratories: we recommend that new users choose a category, to make the filters easier to read afterwards.

You can also skip it by clicking "Skip this step".

2. Types of product

With the "Types of product" filter, filter the methods by the type of product you want to validate. There are 7:

  • Body care

  • Facial care

  • Hair care

  • Make-up

  • Oral care

  • Suncare

  • Toiletries

3. Claims

Test methods are linked to the claims they can validate: with the "Claims" filter, you can therefore filter the methods directly by the effects you want to substantiate.

Over 200 claims are currently listed on the clinical platform.

💡 Good to know: The "Claims" filter is useful for non-scientific teams. It lets you start from a marketing goal to define the appropriate technical protocol.

4. Study parameters

The "Study parameters" filter is a very precise filter, giving an overview of the methods offered at a given stage of the search. Its criteria generally concern one or two methods, so it refines the results very specifically.

5. Devices and methods

The "Devices | Methods" filter lets you select the instruments you want to use for your testing project. You can then access all the methods offered, and the laboratories around the world that have this device.

298 measuring devices are currently listed on the platform.

💡 Good to know: Devices are linked to claims, methods and laboratories. With the logic of filter interdependence, this filter is therefore central and its content can provide a lot of information.

6. The type of result

With the "Types of results" filter, under "More filters", you can choose the type of results you want for your testing project from:

  • Graph

  • Photo

  • 3D image

💡 Good to know: The type of results can matter in the strategy for marketing a study's results.

7. The degree of novelty

Also under "More filters", the "Degree of novelty" filter lets you select more or less recent quantitative or visual measuring devices. The higher the degree, the newer the measurement principle. For the instruments listed by Skinobs, we chose the following scale:

  1. Not innovative: over 10 years

  2. Slightly innovative: 5 to 10 years

  3. Moderately innovative: 2 to 5 years

  4. Innovative: 1 to 2 years

  5. Highly innovative: under 1 year

8. Countries

With the "Countries" filter, locate the geographical area where you want to carry out your test. The results will be the tests performed by the laboratories located in the selected areas (headquarters or subsidiaries).

Nearly 50 countries are currently listed on the clinical platform.

💡 Good to know: The "Countries" filter can be useful depending on the market you are targeting.

9. Methods promoters

The "Methods promoters" filter is the device manufacturers' filter. It lets you filter the available methods by the devices of a particular manufacturer. It is useful if you have a partnership with a manufacturer, for example.

Over 100 manufacturers are currently listed on the clinical platform.

10. Service providers

With the "Service providers" filter, directly select the laboratories whose methods you want to see in your search results. You can also get an overview of the laboratories offering the methods at a given stage of your search.

Over 250 providers are currently listed on the clinical platform.

💡 Good to know: You can use the "Service providers" filter to access the list of methods offered by a particular laboratory, then access the other laboratories that offer the same methods. Useful for looking for alternatives.

Once my search is done...

What is the next step, once your search is done and you are satisfied with your results?

Create a project and save the methods

You can save the methods from your search for later by clicking the bookmark icon of the method you want:

Each saved method must be linked to a project. You will therefore need to select the project for which you want to save this method, or create a new one.

Compare the methods

Once your methods of interest are saved, you can access them from the "Saved services" page, in the "Search" section of the platform menu.

You can display the methods according to the project(s) for which they were saved:

Add notes to the methods to remind yourself of certain details. Each note is linked to the method and to the project(s).

Click "Comparison mode", directly from your search results or from the "Saved services" page, then select two or three methods to compare. Edit the notes if needed.

Export the comparison interface to share the information easily with your teams: make the decision easier, faster and better informed.

💡 Good to know: The notes you add to your methods appear in the PDF when you export the comparison interface. Add details for your teams!

Contact the laboratories

The last step is to contact the laboratories that offer the chosen method. To do so, open the method from your saved methods, select the laboratories you want to contact, and send your request!

Your request will be sent to all the selected laboratories, and you will be able to read their replies in the messaging, directly on the platform.

Don't worry: you will be notified by email as soon as a laboratory replies!
